Evaluations

CRT offers comprehensive developmental, neuropsychological, and psychological evaluations for children ages 0 to 18.

With both clinical psychologists and a neuropsychologist on staff, CRT provides thorough evaluations and can address a variety of clinical issues. One of the few agencies specializing in the needs of children with prenatal substance exposure and/or trauma, CRT is also one of the only agencies in Illinois providing evaluations that include assessment by a pediatrician, providing comprehensive evaluations for fetal alcohol syndrome disorders (FASD), as well as trauma-informed assessment and more.

Our compassionate team members strive not only to ensure that children and caregivers feel comfortable, but also to fully understand each child’s strengths and challenges, within the context of their multiple environments (e.g., home, school, etc.) and culture. Furthermore, we make every effort to produce comprehensive, usable reports.

Who Should Receive an Evaluation?

Parents or caregivers seek an evaluation to better understand why their child has a particular educational, behavioral, or social-emotional difficulty; what kinds of services could benefit their child; and/or what kinds of interventions might help their child make optimal progress at home, in school, or elsewhere.

Typical concerns that might warrant an evaluation include:

Benefits of Evaluation

Comprehensive evaluations provide a great deal of information about many aspects of the child’s life. Though some parents and caregivers may be concerned about the “labels” that could come from this kind of service, a thorough evaluation can improve the accuracy of a child’s diagnosis, which helps that child’s family, educators, and treatment team choose more effective interventions. Additionally, because every child is unique, the kind of tailored, individualized recommendations that our psychologists and neuropsychologist can provide are usually associated with better outcomes.

Evaluation Processes

CRT assesses children and adolescents through age 18 who exhibit a variety of strengths and challenges. We strive to identify where children shine to provide strengths-based recommendations.  We can assess level of cognitive ability; ability to process, understand, and respond to verbal and visual information; educational achievement, or acquisition of school-learned knowledge and skills; adaptive skills, or ability to safely and efficiently complete daily tasks; memory; attention; executive functioning; behavioral regulation; social-emotional development; and a range of mental health conditions.

Developmental Evaluations

CRT’s comprehensive developmental evaluations, designed for children 0-3, allow us to provide targeted recommendations to support development and long-term mental health.

Psychological Evaluations

CRT offers comprehensive psychological evaluations, designed for children 4-18 years old, culminating in an individualized treatment plan.
