Developmental Evaluations

Our developmental evaluations and services are designed for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers up to three years old to assess:

These assessments allow us to provide targeted recommendations to best support subsequent development and long-term mental health. Our clinicians can provide the following services:

Consultation

We can provide consultation in-person, over the phone, or through a HIPAA-compliant video conferencing platform to address questions and concerns that caregivers may have about their child’s development and behavior. These may relate to general development concerns, sleep problems, feeding difficulties, toilet training, temper tantrums, aggressive behavior, and/or discipline. Our clinicians can help you determine whether a developmental evaluation is needed at this time, as well as refer you to services that may be beneficial for you and your child. We can also provide support around family transitions and trauma.

Developmental Screenings

Many parents and caregivers have concerns about their child’s development, or how life events have affected their child’s functioning. Developmental screenings use standardized measures that are play-based and interactive to quickly assess a child’s developmental progress and identify potential concerns through exploration of foundational early childhood milestones. The child’s caregiver remains present throughout the process; and we provide recommendations to support your child’s development at the conclusion of each screening, such as discussing the need for more in-depth evaluation or additional services.

Comprehensive Developmental Evaluations

CRT’s team of evaluation professionals includes a pediatric psychiatrist with experience in infant and early childhood mental health, as well as a pediatrician. A comprehensive evaluation will include an assessment of your child’s cognitive, fine and gross motor skills, receptive and expressive language, social-emotional, and adaptive development.

The psychiatrist will work closely with you and your child, and the evaluation will include a diagnostic interview conducted with the caregiver, administration of developmental testing and play-based activities with the child, and completion of caregiver behavior rating forms. The pediatrician will perform a physical examination to include an assessment of medical concerns. For children where prenatal substance exposure is a concern, the pediatrician can also assess physical features associated with prenatal substance exposure. At the conclusion of the evaluation, you will receive feedback on your child’s performance and needs, as well as targeted recommendations for services and/or activities to support your child’s ongoing development. We will prepare and send a comprehensive written report after the evaluation.

Parent Education

We can provide individual or group parent education about a wide range of subjects, such as typical child development, preterm infant development, the effects of prenatal substance exposure, developmental delays, birth challenges and health problems that can impact development, sleep problems, feeding and nutrition, developmentally appropriate discipline, behavior concerns (e.g., temper tantrums, biting, other aggressive behavior, bullying, etc.), trauma, and adjustment to family transitions.
