Counselor Application
Apply to be a Camp SOAR Counselor!
Join us at Camp SOAR and be part of The Best Week of the Year! Our campers, aged 7-19, can’t wait for their favorite week and all the thrills of summer at Camp SOAR.
But we can’t do it without you, our volunteer counselors. No compensation is received other than the knowledge that you have participated in a life-changing experience and helped our campers enjoy classic summer camp activities they might not otherwise be able to do.
Check out our pre-recorded activities from Summer 2023
Expectations
To understand the job, joys and expectations of our counselors, please review the Expectations of a Camp SOAR Counselor. Training is conducted onsite at Camp on the Saturdays before campers arrive — a fun and informative evening of training and connection activities. Campers arrive on Sundays. Counselors will need to provide their own transportation to and from Camp SOAR.

Counselor Application
- Create an account on the application website -- save the link for ease of access in the future.
- Include the date of your tetanus shot (DTaP) and measles (MMR) vaccine on your application. We swim in Geneva Lake which is a popular fishing lake. Everyone MUST have received a tetanus shot no earlier than 2015.
- Counselor acceptance letters will be emailed in the spring, usually around the end of March/early April.
Apply Now
Submit your application as soon as possible! Although there is no deadline to apply, the sooner your application is received, the better your chances of being accepted.
- Counselors must be 14 years old by the start of camp.
- Apply for either or both weeks (you must attend a training and your full session.)
- For each session, we accept 85-100 counselors. Some will work one-on-one with a camper, others will support cabins or serve in leadership positions.
- Ladies: There is always a waitlist for female counselors so don’t wait to apply. Along with experience, we take into account when your application is received.
- Guys: We can’t accept camper boys until we know you will be there for sure, and we ALWAYS need more male counselors. Please get your applications in as soon as possible.
Training
Counselors are expected to attend in-person training on the Saturday before their assigned week of camp begins. All counselors, new and returning, must attend the training session.
Volunteer Service Hours
A counselor’s volunteer time may be applied to service hours for school and religious purposes, up to 144 hours per week at Camp SOAR. Counselors may volunteer for either week or both weeks, but must commit to the full session and attend training.
More information
Throughout training, counselors will learn about a day at camp, proactive and some reactive strategies for behaviors, communication skills, and ways to form connections with fellow counselors and campers. Training day provides a chance to meet all of your wonderful fellow counselors who help make Camp SOAR such a terrific experience for everyone: campers, counselors, and staff.
